16-year-old pianist from USA performs S. Rachmaninoff – Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18: I. Moderato.

About the artist

Joey Zhu is a 16-year-old junior high school student in California, USA. Joey has won first prizes in many competitions, including the American Fine Arts Festival (AFAF) International Concerto Competition, the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition, the Nafisa Taghioff Award of the Fremont Symphony Young Artist Competition, the Competition for Young Musicians of Livermore-Amador Symphony, and the Junior Bach Festivals. He has also won awards in the Marilyn Mindell Piano Competition, US Open Music Competitions, and CAPMT competition.

As a concerto competition winner, he performed Schumann’s Piano Concerto with El Camino Youth symphony and Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto with the Livermore-Amador Symphony.

Joey also has played cello for seven years, and is assistant principal cellist in the senior orchestra of El Camino Youth Symphony, Palo Alto, California.
