16-year-old pianist from Bulgaria performs Pancho Vladigerov – Prelude Op. 15, No. 1
About the artist
Nikolay Marinov is 16 years old, born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He is a 10th grade student at the Dobrin Petkov National School of Music and Dancing Arts in Plovdiv, studying piano Svetlana Koseva. He started taking piano lessons at the age of 6 and less than a year later won the First Prize at the International Piano Competition “Dr. Voyslav Vuchkovich” in Belgrade, Serbia.
Nikolay has participated in more than 30 international competitions in Europe and USA and has become a prize winner of a number of them, including the “Flame” Piano Competition in Paris, the 11th International Piano Competition “Nikolay Rubinstein” in Paris, the 7th International Piano Competition “Mozart” in Rome, among others.
He has played twelve times as a solist with symphony orchestras, such as Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, Vratsa Philharmonic Orchestra, Sliven Philharmonic Orchestra, the orchestra of State Opera Stara Zagora, the orchestra of Barlassina – Italy and Round Rock Symphony Orchestra.
He gave his first recital at the age of 8 at the “Thracian University” in Edirne, Turkey. He has performed in Brussels, Paris, Plovdiv, as well as participating in concerts in Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Opera de Bastille.
Nikolay has participated in a number of master classes led by Boris Slutsky, Itamar Golan, Jason Kwak, Julian Martin among others.
He is a three time receipient of the “Dimitar Berbatov” Foundation Award and a receipient of the award for high creative achievements from the Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria.
